It was my first radiology residency rotation through the new Susan G. Komen Breast Center at Baylor-Dallas that set me on the path to become a specialist in breast imaging and intervention. I guess my background in nursing kicked in when I saw the fear in the eyes of women diagnosed with breast cancer. Several close relatives and two of my best friends, both doctors, have fought breast cancer at a young age. Shortly before opening Victory Breast Diagnostics and Women’s Imaging in 2006. Dr. Francois Vandaele, president of D’Feet, introduced me to Dolly Warren, founder of D’Feet. They told me about D’Feet and I was only too glad to affiliate, because we share the same mission: to defeat this disease. I truly appreciate their efforts, because there is no adequate reason that screening should not be available to all women.

I have worked in preventive medicine for most of my adult life. When I moved to Texas in 1987, there was no Cancer Plan for the state. I was approached to help get treatment dollars for women so that there could be follow through. My daily prayer is to be able to convince each newly diagnosed cancer patient to learn about what treatment plan is needed, to understand what that treatment involves, and to have the knowledge to accept the treatment recommended, and to truly understand and accept the consequences of refusing a course of treatment. But most importantly, I hope that the patient leaves my office knowing that I am available to her and to her family to assist in whatever way I can while she is in treatment.
