D'Feet honors volunteer as our 2007 Celebration of Life Jr. Volunteer of the Year
When our community instills the importance of volunteerism in our young people, it is such a welcoming site to watch the young volunteers in action. They show such sincerity, genuine caring, we can all learn from them. Although there were many junior volunteers participating in the 2007 Celebration of Life event, Kathy Maines and I want to honor and acknowledge the outstanding efforts of Sheena Vasquez. |

Kathy Maines, our Packet-Pick-Up Chair reminisces about the early stages of Packet Pick-Up to tell her story about Sheena. “Two weeks before the event, I thought I was ready. With the help of the Volunteer Coordinator, I had plenty of volunteers. A few days later, I found out that one of my Mainland volunteers had emergency surgery and would not be able to help. That was okay; I still should be just fine. Tuesday morning, four days before our event, I was on my way to the League City HEB Packet Pick-Up site, and another volunteer called and had been up since 3 am with a stomach virus. Okay, I was getting a little worried. I never anticipated call-ins. I arrived at the HEB and started setting up when my cell phone rang. The caller said she wanted to volunteer. It was amazing. I explained the situation to her. She was across the street eating breakfast and would come as soon as she finished. This was how Sheena Vasquez came to be a volunteer for packet pickup.
